2009 July - Golf Outing for Literacy Center of West Michigan
Approximately 117 members golfed in this years event and we were able to donate $4,000 to the Literacy Center of West Michigan.  As you will see, some photos were more creative than others of our participating foursomes.  See below!

Legislative Lunchoen attended by 100 members, associate members and legislators.  David Campos is an attorney with Garan, Lucow, Miller and provided a hisorical account of how no-fault came to pass, the problems it solved and some of the significant court cases along the way that have helped shaped what it is today.  Discussions about PIP Choice, Kriener Decision, Insurance Scoring and the like ensued over lunch with our legislators.

2008 December - President's Panel
Approximately 120 members attended our annual event featuring Alan Brannan (Grange Ins.), Rich Rasmussen (Michigan Millers), and Paul Mueller (Citizens Ins.).  Legislative updates were provided and we officially presented Kids Food Basket with the $13,000 donation raised during our November event.

2008 November - Kids Food Basket Benefit - $13,000 donated
Thanks to our many generous donators, our meeting sponsor and attendees (Fremont Insurance Company) we are able to donate $8,000 plus a $5,000 match from Hastings Mutual Charitable Foundation to Kids Food Basket. 2008 September - Increasing the Value of your Agency - Marsh Berry
Wayne Walkotten spoke to 40 attendees about valuations and increasing the valuation of your agency.  We received many positive comments about the quality and content of his presentation.  Bob Pierce (MAIA) gave an informative update on the legal circumstances, timing and potential future of credit scoring in Michigan.

July 2008 - WMAIA Charitable Golf Outing raises $3,500 for Literacy Center of West Michigan

Perhaps the best weather many of us can remember for this event - and many golfers expressed that this was the best golf outing that they've ever attended!  Special thanks to all of the volunteers, sponsors and donators for making it another successsful outing!  Our hats off to Jerry Schwartz, Ken Jansen, Joe Tierney & Len Bergsma who planned & cooridinated the entire event - TERRIFIC JOB!  Photos below courtesy of DIAMOND TRIUMPH GLASS - BRIGETTE GAUTHIER.

2008 June - E&O Class




2008 May - MAIA Legislative Day
Our May event was in support of our MAIA legislative day in Lansing.  We spent 1/2 day reviewing issues and meeting with legislators, including a luncheon at the capitol building.  The event was well organized by WMAIA and provides us with visibility in Lansing on issues that affect our industry and customers.


2008 April - Local Legislative Event

Senator Bill Hardiman, Senator Wayne Kuiper, Representative Kevin Green and Senator Mark Jansen attended our forum attended by roughly 60 members for an exchange of views on insurance, tax and other important issues.

2008 March - Ethics CE Class by Olivet Insurance Program
The students of Olivet's Insurance program once again did a commendable job of leading our E&O class.  The student leaders are currnet participants in a semester long Ethics class led by Professor Carol Breed.

2008 February - Technology Luncheon with Smart Services 
Jerry Fetty & Bryant Caudill of MAIA endorsed Smart Services (formerly known as Computer Networking Services) did a great job of leading a question and answer luncheon.  

Consider contacting Smart Services the next time you have automation needs, questions or when you begin planning for the next automation change in your agency.  They specialize in working with independent insurance agencies.  Not only do they undestand hardware requirements but they are intimately familiar with a variety of management systems.

2008 January - Flood CE Class
50 members attended our flood CE class for free! Compliments of Grand General Agency and American Bankers who picked up the cost of the continental breakfast and CE credits! Thank you! Our monthly sponsor, Guarantee Systems did a nice 5 minute presentation about their new CVAT system where agent, claim representative and customer can monitor daily progress of a claim on line.

2007 December - Presidents Panel
Over 125 attended this years presidents panel in conjunction with the CPCU's of Western Michigan. Rogery Looyenga of Auto-Owners, Wally Waldhart of Acuity and Kurt Fuller of Michigan Insurance entertained and informed this packed meeting, which provided one of our best panel discussions to date!

2007 October - Tony Rubleksi, Professional Speaker
Professional Speaker Tony Rubleski, President of Mind Capture Group, speaks to a record 170+ members at our October meeting! Over 100 attended our morning version of the program with another 70+ in the afternoon session. Tony talked about how to keep our customers coming back again and again from his "mind capture" perspective.

Attorney Garrett Tenhave-Chapman from Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge speaks about new statute of limitations orders, discresionary clause orders by insurance commisisoner and recent workers compensation cases that are shaping the outcome of claims and benefits.

2007 Charitable Golf Outing
Our 2007 Annual Golf outing held on Monday, July 16th at Watermark. It was a sold out event again!  $4,000 was raised for the Kent County Literacy Council. The weather cooperated with just a few light rain drops.  Thank you to our many generous sponsors and our event coordinators - Joe Tierney, Ken Jansen & Jerry Schwartz!

2007 Scholarship
WMAIA presented its second annual scholarship to students enrolled in the Olivet Insurance Program.  In 2006 we awarded our first ever scholarship for $1,000.  This year we awarded two scholarships for $1,000 and $500 to Andrew Martin and Lindsay Weaver respectively.  Thank you to those members who contributed generously toward this cause.

2007 March General Membership Meeting
Robert Pierce and Scott Hummel spoke at our March general membership meeting about the many facing legislators in Lansing.  In addition, MAIA President Rob Umstead and Robert Pierce presented WMAIA with the local association of the year award - for the second consecutive year.
